A round-up of news from across the United Reformed Church over the past seven days: 21-27 July<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

North Western Synod<\/strong><\/p>\n

ARC Blackburn and Darwen Asylum Refugee Enterprise (DARE) is celebrating good news. Its three-year Partnership Fund application with The National Lottery Community Fund has been successful, securing a grant of just over \u00a3466,000. This funding will enable DARE to extend its vital support for asylum seekers and refugees in Blackburn with Darwen.<\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

National Synod of Wales
<\/strong>The Revd Gethin Rhys, serving in Cardiff, has been honoured with one of Wales\u2019 highest accolades: a Blue Robe from Gorsedd Cymru in Wrecsam. As a policy officer for Cyt\u00fbn, Gethin has provided evidence and policy suggestions to government committees, denominations, churches, and individuals. During the pandemic, he played a key role in liaising with the Welsh Government on public health guidance for churches. He has also served on the Wales Interfaith Council, helping to promote tolerance and understanding across communities.<\/p>\n

The Revd Dr John Morgans, a former Moderator of the National Synod of Wales, has been awarded a Green Robe. John\u2019s ministry has made a profound impact on the ecumenical life of churches in Wales, especially in the community of Pen-rhys in the Rhondda. A passionate advocate for social justice, he was active in supporting South Wales valley communities during the miners\u2019 strike.<\/p>\n

These awards recognise individuals for their contributions to Welsh language and public life.<\/p>\n

South Western Synod
<\/strong>Following a major refurbishment funded by a generous legacy, Tavistock URC\u2019s historic pipe organ is once again in use. The church will launch a new concert series on Saturday 27 September, beginning with a performance by organist Stephen Tanner.<\/p>\n

Mersey Synod<\/strong>
Vicars Cross URC recently celebrated 60 years of service to its community.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend of 28\u201329 June, the church opened its doors and gardens to welcome visitors, showcase its ministry, and celebrate the many ways God has been at work. Special guests included the Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr Sherin Akhtar; Cllr Elizabeth MacGlashen; and other local parish councillors.<\/p>\n
